Justin Ormsby is the 3rd - 5th grade elementary music teacher at Truman Elementary in Nevada, Mo.

After graduating from Missouri State University with a Bachelors of Music Education degree, Ormsby joined the team at The Summit Preparatory School in Springfield, MO where he taught K – 6 general music.

He left The Summit to accept a graduate assistantship with the coordinator of music education at Missouri State University to continue his Masters of Science in Secondary Education – Music degree.

At Missouri State University he taught introduction to music education and arts integration courses. That same year Ormsby also assumed the position of Assistant Band Director at Parkview High School where he assisted with the 150 member marching band and directed the school's concert band and 2nd jazz band.

After the completion of his Graduate Assistantship Ormsby took the head band directing job in the Mansfield Public School District, Mansfield, MO.  His duties included high school band, middle school band, beginning band, 5th grade general music, high school jazz band, high school college prep music, and high school music appreciation.

While at Mansfield he created the school’s first ever field show marching band, which won 6 trophies (including best in class, best drum major and best color guard) at the band’s very first competition.  Ormsby also organized the school’s first performing jazz band, had an 80+ % recruitment rate for beginning band, and helped produce the first two instrumental music majors in Mansfield history.

Ormsby left Mansfield in 2009 and worked with special needs students in the Springfield Public School district for two years.

In 2011, Ormsby accepted the position in Nevada and has worked both with his elementary music students and the high school band.

Along with Music Education, Ormsby’s primary interests are educational philosophy, creating effective and thoughtful teachers, education advocacy, and the relationship between philosophy and practice in education.
